Liverpool’s Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi is spending the season on loan at NEC Nijmegen, the official website has confirmed.

The 19-year-old cannot get a work permit to play in England yet, but hopefully after this campaign he’ll get the required paperwork and get a chance to prove himself at Liverpool.

Awoniyi played for Frankfurt in Germany last season, but injuries affected his progression. Hopefully he’ll get more opportunities in the Eredivisie, which will be a slight step up from Bundesliga II.

The striker is powerful, quick and his physical traits make him a real handful, but he’s still very raw and needs to hone his movement and finishing before he’s ready for the top.

Awoniyi joins a rasp of Liverpool youngsters out on loan this season, including Allan Rodrigues to Hertha Berlin and Danny Ward to Huddersfield – among others.

Here at Empire of the Kop we wish him well. Play games and score goals, Taiwo!
