Sturridge sensationally dropped from England XI – but two Reds still set to start

Daniel Sturridge will not start for England in their World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in the Stadion Antona Malatinského tomorrow evening.

According to the BBC, he will be one of just three casualties from the side that lost to Iceland in the last-16 of the Euros in France this summer.

Man Utd’s Chris Smalling and Spurs’ Dele Alli are the other two.

However, two Liverpool players will start – neither of whom were involved in Roy Hodgson’s final game in charge. Jordan Henderson will take Alli’s place, while Adam Lallana will take Sturridge’s place. There is no place for Nathaniel Clyne.

England and Slovakia met in the group stages of the Euros, playing out a 0-0 draw as Martin Skrtel stole the show with a fine defensive performance.

Amazingly, England have not lost a World Cup qualifier since 2009 when Fabio Capello’s side were beaten 1-0 in the Ukraine in the final game of the group.
