Klopp hails Trent Alexander-Arnold as youngster intelligently avoids a red card

Klopp was full of praise for the performance of youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold last night.

And not just because debutant played so well. It was the fact that remained level headed and kept making important challenges despite picking up a booking as early as the 26th minute that our German gaffer seemed most impressed by.

“You need to come back in games when you have difficult moments,” said Klopp.

“Like a yellow card for Trent – he’s far away from being a really hard challenger. But he stayed in the game, made lots of challenges against (Georges-Kevin) Nkoudou on the wing, and was really smart with it.” (Echo)

He eventually lasted until the 68th minute before being replaced by Nathaniel Clyne.

The youngster has been in great form in the U23s this season and was rewarded with his start last night. He played the game at right-back, but is equally adept at playing on the right of midfield or even as a defensive holding player.

He has not yet featured in a matchday squad in the league, but has played five games and scored two goals for the U21s this season.
