Jordan Henderson’s leadership hailed by unexpected breakout star

Kevin Stewart has hailed Jordan Henderson’s leadership in the aftermath of our 2-1 win over Spurs in the League Cup fourth round on Tuesday night.

Henderson was suspended for the game after a late booking against West Brom saw him pick up a one-match ban. Stewart replaced Hendo in the holding midfield berth and turned in yet another top class performance.

“He’s a really cool guy,” Stewart said. “He doesn’t come across as a big, scary captain.

“He’s a really calm, settled guy and is really approachable. That’s perfect for younger players to not feel too intimidated.” (official site).

Stewart was a surprise breakout star in the final third of last season and has carried on where he left off during this campaign.

Earlier this week Klopp surprisingly named him as the best tackler in the squad, and he seems to have edged out Lucas as the go-to guy when the German wants to shut a game down in the final minutes.

He has come off the bench four times in the league already and was an unused sub in the other five games. He is almost certain to be in the squad again this weekend.
