Henderson is the heartbeat of Klopp’s energetic side, suggests old Liverpool boss

Jordan Henderson. What a man.

He’s had to endure a serious rollercoaster during his time at Anfield. Signed from Sunderland for £16 million in the summer of 2011, he was originally written off as a flop and was almost sold to Fulham by Brendan Rodgers in his first season in charge.

He turned it round massively and became a key part of the side in the 2013/14 season, but by the time last season rolled around some fans were again questioning his contribution.

This season he has been back to his wonderful best; he’s the fulcrum of everything that’s great about Klopp’s magical midfield and has been converted into our first choice deep-lying midfielder.

Here’s what Souness said about him:

“He is not a silky player… but every team needs someone like Jordan Henderson,

“He puts the ball under pressure at every opportunity, he has great athleticism, he looks to have a great attitude, he gets to the ball, he makes people make passes they don’t want to make.

“He is very important to that team, important in a less obvious way than [Philippe] Coutinho.” (TalkSport)

Looking back now, it’s quite frankly incredible that some fans seriously wanted him to be sold in the summer. The fact that he’s dragged himself back from the edge twice is a testament to his character and is precisely the sort of attitude we need in the side.
