If Dejan Lovren played like he did yesterday all of the time, he’d be regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the country.
Sadly, the Croat is plagued with inconsistencies, but against Manchester United, he was superb. Not only did he deal with the threat of Zlatan Ibrahimovic fairly well, but he led from the back, made nine clearances and won eight aerial duels.
A few of those duels were against Marouane Fellaini, the giant Belgian battering ram who emerged from the bench as Jose Mourinho went direct – but Lovren couldn’t remember his name in post-game chat!
“They had two big guys on the field. Ibrahimovic and.. err.. err..” he said, before being saved by interviewer Geoff Shreeves!
