Liverpool’s no.1 summer target Brandt outlines future plans

Julian Brandt was coy when asked recently about whether he’d follow in the footsteps of Leroy Sane and Julian Draxler and leave Germany.

Both the young wingers mentioned have excelled since departing the Bundesliga, Sane for City in England and Draxler for PSG in France.

Liverpool have made Brandt our primary summer transfer target, with Jurgen Klopp desperate to enhance his offensive options – with this season going stale since the turn of the year.

Brandt is quick, skilful and suits Klopp’s style due to his ability to press.

But the winger doesn’t know yet if he’ll actively seek a a move away from Leverkusen, who are not guaranteed to finish in the European places ahead of next season.

‘You can take the step [abroad], but I don’t think you have to,’ he told German broadcaster DW, cited in the Daily Mail.

‘Those that back themselves to do it have nothing in their way. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to try and find your feet abroad. Julian [Draxler] and Leroy [Sane] are the best examples of that right now.

‘They are both young players and have huge futures ahead of them.’

‘I think the allure of being world famous is normal. It would be a lie to say it wasn’t alluring, but where and when you never know,’ he said.

‘Football moves so quickly, and as quickly as things develop positively, they can also go south and see you slip into a place where you’re forgotten.’

Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele recently outlined why they wouldn’t join Liverpool, so at least Brandt hasn’t entirely ruled out the possibility!

The 20-year-old has enormous potential and appears to have the right attitude, too.

Brandt would be a top addition, but we need a centre-forward as well. Roberto Firmino has taken the ‘false-9’ position too literally in recent months…
