Klopp’s interest in Naby Keita definite, but there’s a catch [James Pearce]

Jurgen Klopp admires Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita and would love to sign him this summer, James Pearce of the Echo has confirmed.

However, Bayern Munich are also very keen and according to Pearce, are considered frontrunners.

We’ve seen time and time again that when Bayern want a Bundesliga star, they get him. You only have to look at their ability to acquire the likes of Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels from arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund to see that.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side also will be without Xabi Alonso next term, with the legendary Spaniard retiring in the summer, so there’s probably room for another in Bayern’s engine room.

They have Josh Kimmich, Arturo Vidal, Renato Sanches, Thiago and Javi Martinez capable of playing in the middle, but Keita would add more energy and drive.

He’d be a wonderful addition for Liverpool however and perhaps our only chance of acquiring the Guinean is the fact he shares an agent with Sadio Mane…

We already have a link with his representative and are hopefully already working tirelessly to convince the 22-year-old of an Anfield switch.
