The extent of Rhian Brewster’s cruel injury setback is revealed

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster has suffered an untimely injury setback ahead of a pre-season in which he was expected to a prominent figure.

The striker was all set to feature in a number of the club’s upcoming friendlies this summer but will now instead be working behind the scenes to get himself back to full fitness.

Brewster hinted at an injury via Snapchat on Tuesday, picturing his left foot in a protective boot. The club has since revealed that the 17-year-old has broken a bone in his foot and will now undergo rehabilitation at the Academy.

It looks likely the Englishman will now face eight weeks on the sidelines, thereby suggesting he could miss the start of the new season.

His absence in pre-season will be a crushing blow given his desire to progress and begin pushing for first team opportunities. That said, the Reds will undoubtedly be taking positives from the fact it has happened now rather than just before the start of the new campaign.

2017/2018 promises to be Brewster’s opportunity to pick up where he left off and make a name for himself in the U23s team whilst also striving to follow in the footsteps of Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria, who all made their first team breakthroughs last season.

Come back stronger, Rhian.
