LFC won’t give Ojo to Newcastle because Klopp prefers another club

Jurgen Klopp is happy for Sheyi Ojo to go on loan this coming season, but would prefer the youngster to spend time at a Championship club that can guarantee him first-team football, Sky Sports are claiming.

Rafa Benitez is interested in acquiring the 20-year-old, but cannot offer Ojo the minutes Klopp feels he needs for development. Instead, our former boss wants Ojo for the bench, with the likes of Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez, Matt Richie and Mo Diame preferred in the wide areas currently.

As a result, Liverpool have earmarked Middlesbrough as a more interesting option for us, with the relegated outfit diminished in terms of wide attackers.

We’d back a player of Ojo’s talent to earn game-time at Newcastle, actually, but can understand Klopp’s sentiment.

A season on the bench would be detrimental to Ojo, especially considering he stagnated in 2016/17 due to injury.

The prodigy has talent, but we need to see it on a consistent basis this coming season if he’s to one day hit the heights expected of him.

Remember, Ojo is still the most expensive 14-year-old of all time, when Liverpool bought him from West Brom six years ago.
