A Wales player has given Ben Woodburn his biggest ever compliment

The only players in Welsh history who can rival Gareth Bale are John Charles and Ryan Giggs.

The Real Madrid star is a world-class sensation and the Premier League is a worse place without him.

But team-mate Dave Edwards has compared Liverpool’s teenage prodigy Ben Woodburn with the the Welsh captain, who’s set to miss the upcoming international fixtures with injury.

“I’ve seen a lot of Ben in this campaign and he reminds me of what Gareth was like when he was younger,” Reading midfielder Edwards told RTE.

“And if you see what Gareth was like in the Euros, the bigger the stage, the more he thrives.

“There aren’t many players who can do that when the whole world is watching.

“But from what I’ve seen I’m pretty sure Ben is cut from the same cloth and he will relish the chance to show everyone he is the real deal.”

For a 17-year-old to be paid such a huge compliment will hopefully inspire him to good performances, as without Bale, there’s suggestions Woodburn’s going to start against Georgia and Ireland…

He doesn’t even make Liverpool’s bench consistently, but he’s already being asked to play a pivotal role in deciding whether his country qualifies for the World Cup!

But as Edwards says, the best players thrive under such pressure.

And as Woodburn’s not getting minutes under Jurgen Klopp, we’re delighted Chris Coleman’s happy to utilise him.

Hopefully he’ll enjoy as productive a week as he did last time, when he scored and assisted in two Wales victories.
