Why key LFC player has travelled to Qatar – Paul Joyce

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has been sent by the club to Qatar to continue his rehab from a thigh injury that has so far kept him out of action this season, reports the Times.

Paul Joyce writes that the Englishman is headed to the Aspire facility in the Middle East with a member of Liverpool’s medical staff – predominantly for a ‘change of scenery’ – meaning the 29-year-old’s return date should still be next month.

Undoubtedly Liverpool have missed Lallana so far this season.

No other player in the squad provides his energy out of possession and his quick feet are perhaps only rivalled by Coutinho.

This means he not only helps us win the ball back, but helps us retain it as well.

Upon his return, Jurgen Klopp has a big decision about where to deploy him, as Coutinho is currently occupying the central midfield spot to the left of Jordan Henderson that Lallana made his own last term.

Klopp could use both Lallana and Coutinho either side of a no.6 (Henderson or Emre Can, most likely), but this is pretty offensive for a team that already lacks proper defensive cover.

He could also push Coutinho into the frontline and pick Lallana just behind him.

Either way, it’s a nice problem to have.
