Del Piero bigs up Liverpool transfer: ‘He’d be ideal & not that expensive’

Legendary Juventus attacker Alessandro Del Piero is desperate for his former club to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Our German 23-year-old is out of contract in summer 2018, which means any foreign club can offer him a Bosman deal come January 1.

Italian champions Juventus are the heavy favourites to clinch his signature, but Del Piero reckons his old club could actually do the deal this winter rather than wait until the end of the season and get Can on a free.

“Allegri’s side needs another midfielder because [Sami] Khedira is known to pick up minor knocks,” former Italy striker Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.

“[Claudio] Marchisio is coming back from injury, but he’s still not at his best and [Miralem] Pjanic is not such a physical player.

“Emre Can of Liverpool would be ideal, and he’s not even that expensive. He could be the big name for Juve in January. They need somebody like him.

“He’s physically present and somebody like Emre Can would fit in very well with Pjanic and Khedira.”

Emre Can is a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice midfield.

We’re 100% resigned to losing Can. It’s upsetting, as he’s a good player with terrific potential, but if he doesn’t want to be at Liverpool anymore, then so be it.

Jurgen Klopp is building something special and if Can can’t see that, then he isn’t the player for us.

Naby Keita is already arriving in 2018 and the Guinean is a much better option already.

We’d prefer Can stayed until then though as we need the full squad for the second half of the season.
