Potential Keita/Henderson partner admits, ‘Liverpool are interested’

Liverpool have a genuine interest in Watford’s all-action midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, according to the player himself.

The Frenchman has mightily impressed this term, scoring seven goals in the Premier League from central midfield.

Doucoure can drive through the centre, win tackles and intercept opposition possession, too.

‘It’s true that these clubs are interested,’ he told French TV channel telefoot, when asked about the attention of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool.

‘But I’m at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well.’

Doucoure is 25-years-old and just about to enter his peak years as a midfielder. He’s not yet a household name, but Premier League clubs charge fortunes for their best players when teams from the top six become interested, so he won’t come cheap.

In terms of attributes though, he could definitely boost our midfield. Along with Naby Keita, who’s already arriving, the energy and dynamism in the middle of our park would increase, as would the ability to dribble that Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can lack.

Some fans don’t like it, but Jurgen Klopp has long-term plans for Henderson at the base of his midfield. With Doucoure and Keita either side, we’d have two lung-busting box-to-box players who’d benefit from his controlling presence.

With Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah as the front-three, this lineup could do wonders next term.
