Manchester United are again being linked to Napoli’s Jorginho, with his agent Jorge Santos suggesting the Italians could sell him in the summer to fund the deal that brings Lucas Torreira to Stadio San Paolo.
The Brazilian is an integral part of Napoli’s midfield, sitting deep and dictating play with his brilliant passing and superb football brain.
“He wants to stay, although we’ll have to see if Napoli agree with that,” Santos told Italian broadcaster Radio CRC, cited in the Express, who peddle the rumour.
“If a player like Torreira arrives from Sampdoria, then that will require an important investment and Jorginho could be sacrificed to make way.
“I think they’d rather sell Jorginho than Amadou Diawara, who is younger.”
We’ve watched a lot of Napoli this term and have been mightily impressed with the 26-year-old.
In fact, he offers exactly what our midfield currently lacks: a technically exceptional, controlling presence at its base.
Jordan Henderson does a decent job here in the main, but he’s injury prone. He misses as many matches as Daniel Sturridge did – that’s a fact since 2014 – not an exaggeration.
If Napoli will sell Jorginho, we really hope the player is on Klopp’s radar. With Naby Keita arriving in 2018/19, our midfield could look incredible with the Guinean’s energy and talent complementing the South American’s guile.
