Journo provides LFC positive Alderweireld boost

Liverpool are considering summer moves for one of Toby Alderweireld or Harry Maguire, writes Dean Jones in Bleacher Report.

He claims that Jurgen Klopp wants another elite central defender to provide support for Virgil van Dijk and has earmarked the Tottenham and Leicester stars as suitable options.

“The boss is also still tempted to sign another defender, with Harry Maguire of Leicester believed to be emerging as a genuine target. Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld is on the radar, too,” he says.

Alderweireld is simply world-class and we’d be over the moon if Liverpool showed the ambition to secure him from our rivals.

The Belgian hasn’t enjoyed a good season; injured for some part of it and stuck in a contract pursuit with the powers that be, which meant he lost his place in the second half of the campaign, too.

But his ability is undeniable, and at 29-years-old, he’s about to enter his peak two to three years as a centre-back.

Spurs may be forced into selling him as well, considering a clause becomes active in his contract in 2019 that means any club trigger a £25m release-clause.

Maguire is a less glamorous option, but he’s enjoyed a good season with the Foxes and is now involved in the England set-up as a result.

He’s strong, decent on the ball – but potentially not an enormous improvement on Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.
