Fabinho explains what Roberto Firmino told him about Liverpool prior to move

Fabinho admits Roberto Firmino warned him of the colder climates that awaited him in Liverpool prior to the completion of his move.

The Brazilian reported for his first day of pre-season training on Monday after signing from Monaco for a fee in the region of £43.7m.

His introduction proved to be something of a surprise, with few reports having elevated him as a potential target for the club in the first place.

Liverpool’s extensive planning for a deal to sign Fabinho was reflected by his arrival occurring before Emre Can’s free transfer to Juventus became official.

Jurgen Klopp had filled the German’s void and practically nobody had known it.

Fabinho told Liverpoolfc.com: “When we were close to finalising the deal, Roberto started giving me some tips about life in the city. He told me Liverpool was a fantastic place, just a little cold every now and again!”

He added: “When I was doing the medical exams, I couldn’t stop asking people, ‘When does it finally become official?’ You don’t sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world every day you know!”

“A club with Liverpool’s history wants you? Come on, you just pack your bags and go! It will be an honour to wear the famous red shirt. For a club like Liverpool, a good season means trophies.”

The 24-year-old is likely to contend with Jordan Henderson for the no.6 role, arguably offering a more defensively-inclined approach than the skipper.

He not only promises to inject an added brute strength and grit as midfield protection, but could also grant Henderson a greater freedom to contribute in the final third and press higher without concerns of abandoning his shape.

Liverpool’s newest Brazilian is a similarly vital foundation for the bursting runs of Naby Keita between the lines and, perhaps most importantly, is another meaningful step towards further defensive improvement for the Reds.
