James Pearce names Liverpool midfield for West Ham opener

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is being tipped to start with two of our new summer signings in midfield for the Premier League opener against West Ham.

It’s now just eight days to go until we begin our league campaign, with Jordan Henderson perhaps unsurprisingly tipped not to feature after reaching the World Cup semi-finals with England this summer.

James Pearce says he expects Klopp to go with a midfield three of Fabinho, Naby Keita and James Milner against the Hammers.

Speaking in a question-and-answer session with the Liverpool Echo, Pearce says that based on pre-season form it seems likely Fabinho, Keita and Milner would be the trio for Klopp to select.

‘It’s a tough one to call,’ he said. ‘Things will change depending on how the final two friendlies go. Based on what I’ve seen so far I’d go with Fabinho, Keita and Milner.’

This is certainly exciting as it means seeing two of our new big-name additions nice and early.

Midfield certainly looked something of a weakness as Luka Modric and co. thoroughly outplayed us in that area in the Champions League final, so here’s hoping Fab and Nab get off to the best possible start next weekend.
