Manager basically admits £60m star is gutted to miss out on Liverpool transfer

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has all but admitted Nabil Fekir is pretty gutted at missing out on a transfer to Liverpool.

Who can blame him? He’s only human, after all.

The France international was strongly linked with us over the summer and could no doubt have been an exciting purchase, though it’s hard for us to feel too down-beat about the state of our squad as it is!

According to the Metro, a £60million deal looked on the cards for us to bring in Fekir before it all fell through, though they now quote his manager Genesio as admitting the player is disappointed not to have got his move.

The Metro quote him as saying: ‘It is never easy accepting this kind of situation, when you are very near to signing for a club where you want to go. Where you want to reach another level and to give a boost to your career.

‘But as I said, it could have been worse for him. He is at Lyon, at a strong club, he is captain of a team who plays in the Champions League.’

Could this mean a future deal is possible? We’ll have to see how the season pans out for both us and him – if he maintains his form of last season and we look a little short up front (not an immediate concern probably, but with injuries who knows?) then it’s easy to imagine we might try again for him soon.
