Sir Kenny Dalglish opens up on LFC’s chances & names best player so far

Our friends at Anfield Index have released a fantastic hour-long podcast with Liverpool’s greatest ever footballer Sir Kenny Dalglish.

To listen to the whole thing, all you need to do is sign up for a 7-Day trial, for FREE, here.

There’s countless snippets from the King that need listening to, but one that immediately took our attention was Dalglish’s claim that James Milner has not only been our best player this season, but was up there in 2017/18, too.

“Milner was as good as anybody we had last year,” he said. “Maybe Mo Salah would be an exception… And this year he’s started the same. He’s been everywhere the three games. He’s a real good professional, a real good example and I think the three guys in the middle of the pitch, Keita, Wijnaldum and him, were a huge difference v Brighton.”

During the summer, when fans were building potential XIs for the campaign, hardly anybody included Milner, who many assumed would make way for Fabinho and Naby Keita – but three games in and our most experienced player has started every time.

£44m Fabinho can’t get in the squad just yet, while club captain Jordan Henderson, who enjoyed a terrific World Cup, is on the bench!

That’s before mentioning offensive midfield options like the injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri.

The possibilities Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal are exceptional, in short.

Eventually, we think Fabinho will secure the anchoring role, with Keita a guaranteed participant as our no.8, but Milner could be the other selection on the right of the three.

It’s quite possible that aged 32, he’s actually playing the best football of his career.
