Xherdan Shaqiri gives his verdict on Ki-Jana Hoever’s ‘very nice’ display

Xherdan Shaqiri says Liverpool are disappointed to have been knocked out of the FA Cup – but it was good for some of the young players to get a chance in the team.

Rafa Camacho and Curtis Jones both started the game – two players who impressed in pre-season – but the real story was Ki-Jana Hoever, who replaced the injured Dejan Lovren just minutes into the match.

Shaqiri was full of praise for the young defender, who looked assured at the age of just 16.

The Swiss international told LiverpoolFC.com: “He is very nice. He is still very young, you see that on the pitch also. He came on and he tried everything. He is going to be a very good player in the future.”

Shaqiri went closest to equalising for the Reds with a stunning free-kick that hit the post (which you can watch here).

On that set-piece, he added: “Sometimes you need luck also and the free-kick was very unlucky. I saw the ball inside already, but it never went in.”

The Reds’ focus now turns to Brighton on Saturday afternoon in a must-win game in the title race.
