19-year-old Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt would be the dream signing for many Reds fans this summer – and according to Guillem Balague, Liverpool have been speaking to the centre-back.
The Spanish journalist told the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily Podcast that the Reds are definitely interested in the Dutchman and have “been talking to him” about a potential move.
Barcelona are believed to be the favourites to sign De Ligt, although there are some doubts over whether they can afford to sign him and Antoine Griezmann when they have already purchased Frenkie de Jong, another young Ajax star, for around £65 million.
PSG are also interested in De Ligt, but again, whether they can afford him with FFP an issue for them remains unclear.
Having De Ligt, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to choose from, as well as Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, would make us very strong in that department.
It will still take some convincing to get him to move to Anfield ahead of Camp Nou, but it’s promising that the Reds are in the conversation – not that long ago, it would have been ridiculous to think we could even have a chance.
