Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson was one of the better players on the field last night as we drew 2-2 with Sporting Lisbon at New York Yankee’s Stadium.
The captain started the game in central midfield alongside Fabinho and James Milner – given licence to both start attacks from deep – but also bomb forward and get into the box.
One of his late runs led to Divock Origi’s equaliser, after Henderson’s header was only parried by Sporting’s keeper.
He also sprayed some delicious long passes, made countless tackles and interceptions and very much look liked a midfielder with the bit between his teeth and in perfect condition for the new season.
On this evidence, he’ll be starting the campaign in the team – likely alongside Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum – the trio that started in Madrid nearly two months ago now.
