In Italy, they reckon Dejan Lovren has had enough of his bit-part Liverpool role and will demand a move to AS Roma before the Italian window is up.
Corriere dello Sport say Lovren ‘considers his English cycle closed’ and ‘would be willing to lower his salary’ in order to get a transfer to the Italian capital and replace Kostas Manolas, who joined Napoli.
Virgil van Dijk is the first name on our team-sheet, but the position next to his is currently being rotated between Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, with Lovren very much the fourth choice.
Considering our Croatian defender is 30-years-old, we can understand why he’d want a Serie A switch, but simply cannot see Jurgen Klopp allowing his exit…
Matip and Gomez, while excellent, are injury prone – and competing the full season with his three senior central defenders would be beyond naive.
Lovren will likely have to wait his turn – but will probably get the nod in the early EFL Cup rounds, should we stay in the tournament for a little long than our past few seasons!
