If you hadn’t heard, Liverpool are set to sign Takumi Minamino officially on January 1, providing he passes a medical in the coming weeks, Athletic journalist James Pearce has confirmed.

It turns out that this move had been on the cards for some time as the Japanese international has had his eye on a move to the Premier League since he was a child.

Speaking last year, he said that it’s “one of the leagues that I’ve watched ever since I was a child and the Premier League is where all the top players play.as per this Athletic article.

So the writing was on the wall for the Red Bull Salzburg man. After he impressed against Liverpool in both games in the Champions League this season, it’s not a big surprise that the Reds make a move.

Although I think he may be the first player we’re looking at signing because they played a blinder against us since Christian Benteke.

I suspect the Japanese international will have a bit more look at Anfield though than the now Crystal Palace forward.

Minamino’s move is yet to be acknowledged by the club, but if Pearce is as confident as he is then it’s as good as done in our eyes!
