Exclusive: Ex-Red tips 18-year-old Liverpool starlet to become a ‘first-team squad member’

Jose Enrique has revealed how impressed he has been by highly-rated Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott in pre-season.

Though warning that making the grade in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team is an entirely different ball game, the Spaniard predicted that the club will be keen to keep the young Englishman in Merseyside.

“Another is Harvey Elliott – I love him. There are rumours that if Shaqiri leaves then he’ll take his position in the squad,” the former fullback told Empire of the Kop.

“He’s done really well in the Championship, but to play for Liverpool is another level entirely.

“He’s very, very young, but I do believe he’s going to be a first-team squad member, and he won’t go out on another loan.”

The teenager enjoyed a highly successful spell in the Championship with Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers outfit, registering 18 goal contributions in his time in Lancashire.

While there is certainly a temptation to over-hype a talent of Elliott’s calibre, we can reasonably predict that Klopp will be inclined to keep hold of the former Fulham Academy graduate and watch over his development in Liverpool.

The attacker has certainly highlighted that his abilities lie above the level of the Championship (no disrespect meant to the division in question), with pre-season showcasing the player’s versatility.

Though far from suggesting that we don’t need to make another forward signing, the No.67 has arguably proven his capabilities as a first-team squad member ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Liverpool fans are baffled as to why the club hasn’t tried to hijack Arsenal’s move for a Bobby Firmino regen
