Gabby Agbonlahor has questioned whether Liverpool-linked frontman Jarrod Bowen would be able to make the step up to the level of football played at Anfield.
The West Ham star enjoyed a respectable first full season in the Premier League last term, registering eight goals and five assists in 38 top-flight appearances.
“I do like him as a player but that’s a big step up with big expectations,” the former Aston Villa striker told Football Insider.
“That Anfield crowd is a big expectation, fighting with [Mohamed] Salah and [Sadio] Mane for a place would be really hard as well.
“I don’t see that happening, to be honest. West Ham really like him, so they’re going to expect a lot of money for him which Liverpool won’t pay for a player of his talent.
“He’s a great player but I’m not sure he’s got that level for Liverpool.”
The Merseysiders are thought to remain keen on adding a new forward to their ranks, alongside a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, to bolster the squad.

Judging whether reported targets will be capable of making the jump to an outfit of our calibre is difficult considering the impact of prior signings.
Andy Robertson and our former No.5 for instance, both secured from a relegated club and a Premier League side in the bottom half of the table, have flourished under Jurgen Klopp as world-class talents.
Given the recruitment team’s track record, there’s nothing to say that Bowen couldn’t experience a similar trajectory at Liverpool, though, of course, we’ve yet to determine just how high on the prospective transfer list the Englishman features.
