Former Liverpool goalkeeper scores dramatic injury time equaliser

We all know what happened when Alisson Becker scored his only goal for Liverpool but one former Red has now matched the feat of our No.1, achieving something that very few goalkeepers manage in their careers.

As reported by Warrington Town on their X account: ‘Deep in to injury time, Williams’ corner is on the money and Dan Atherton gets up for the header and the ball ricochets in for an equaliser!’

Speaking with the Warrington Guardian after the match, the stopper’s manager Mark Beesley said: “Dan is good in the air and attacks the ball because that’s what he’s used to doing in his own box.

“He gets on the end of it and it goes in, but we deserved that little bit of luck”.

The 23-year-old has already had a weird and wonderful career with a four-year stay in our academy ending with no club and a return to working life for the ‘keeper.

After fighting to get back into the game, it’s great to see the Haydock-born player back on the pitch and making headlines for all the right reasons.

Of course, it’s not the job of the man between the sticks to go and put the ball in the opposition net but when it happens – it’s always a story worth sharing.
