Liverpool add to pre-season fixtures – game against Italian giants announced

Liverpool will play Roma in a pre-season friendly, it was confirmed today.

The game will take place on Monday 1st August (kick-off 1:30am BST) at the 46,000-capacity Busch Stadium in St Louis – the home of Major League Baseball side St Louis Cardinals.

The game will not be part of the International Champions Cup (ICC), but will be played in between the ICC games against AC Milan and Barcelona.

The game marks the third time we’ll have played Roma in pre-season during recent years. They beat us 2-1 in 2012 and 1-0 in 2014.

In a statement, the club said the following:

“We’re very much looking forward to seeing our fans from Missouri and the wider Midwest in St Louis.

“Busch Stadium has played host to many fantastic events from MLB All-Star games to concerts to World Series games, so it’s only fitting that a historic club like Liverpool FC should play there when visiting this terrific sports city.” (via Echo)

We’ve not played Roma competitively since 2002 when we beat them 2-0 at Anfield in the Champions League group stages.

The Echo claims that no further friendly games will now be announced for this summer.
