Liverpool officially unveiled their new away kit this morning – and as predicted, it was the same kit as that which was leaked online several weeks ago.

What was not leaked, however, was where New Balance got their idea.

Amazingly – according to the Echo – it was inspired by the European Cup final programme from 1977!

The game itself saw us beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and lift the European Cup for the first time.

In a statement, New Balance said the following:

“The kit has been inspired by the Reds memorable European Cup win in Rome in ‘77 and the distinct designs on the cover of the programme for the game.”

Here is the programme in question:

The kit also features a Bill Shankly quote on the hem, which reads “Liverpool was made for me and I was made for Liverpool”.
