Emre Can & two other international stars unlikely to go on Liverpool’s pre-season tour

Emre Can seems likely to miss Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America because of Germany’s run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

The Reds midfielder is yet to feature for the world champions in France – he has been an unused substitute in all five of their games.

But that could change in Thursday’s semi-final with the hosts because Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger are both injury doubts.

According to the Echo, Jurgen Klopp is giving all of Liverpool’s internationals three weeks off from the date that their country is eliminated.

If Germany reach the final, Can would not be expected back at Melwood until August 1, which is when Liverpool return from the USA.

Klopp may have been preparing for a tour without Can because Germany were always expected to go deep in the tournament, but could also travel without Joe Allen and Danny Ward.

The Wales duo are in the same position as Can ahead of their semi-final with Portugal on Wednesday, which would leave Klopp light on midfielders Stateside.

That could give opportunities for new signing Marko Grujic as well as youngsters Kevin Stewart and Cameron Brannagan to impress the manager.
