Coutinho? Daniel Sturridge? Ragnar Klavaan…?
Well, none of the above, actually!
Former Arsenal playmaker turned Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who in truth, chats a lot of rubbish RE Liverpool, has named our best player following the positive start to the Premier League campaign.
He told Sky Sports: “Roberto Firmino. Everything about him is top draw, for me, they found a gem.
“After he came it took him a while but that’s because of how hard this league is. He’s got used to that now and he’s what you’d call a good footballer.”
He’s a little better than ‘good’, Paul!
The Brazilian, who’s finally earning the plaudits his talent deserves, has been scintillating in our attack so far this campaign, wherever he’s been deployed.
So far he’s scored four goals in all competitions and registered two EFL Cup assists to boot. Not bad from eight appearances, considering this time 12 months ago he was labelled a flop by many pundits.
For Liverpool, he’s completely essential and not just because of his end product. Firmino sets the tone for our press and possesses genius movement which creates space for others. His touch is phenomenal and his football brain makes up for a lack of blistering pace.
Having just turned 25, Firmino still has room for improvement. We can’t wait to see how good he can be.
