Liverpool U23s slump to first league defeat since August

Posted by

The Liverpool U23s were beaten 1-0 by the Man City U23s at the City Academy Stadium on Friday night as they suffered their first league loss since August.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria both played, despite being in action with the first team in midweek. Mama Sakho and Tiago Ilori played in central defence, but interestingly there was no Danny Ings in the Liverpool squad. Does that mean we might see him included in the squad to play Palace in the Premier League tomorrow?

Paolo Fernandes scored the only goal of the game with a calm finish past Liverpool keeper Coaimhin Kelleher in the 23rd minute.

We were outplayed for long periods of the first half, and Kelleher made good saves from Javairo Dilirosun and Rodney Kongoloas to keep us in the game.

Alexander-Arnold came closest to scoring for us when he saw a powerful shot saved by Angus Gunn midway through the second half.

Liverpool U23s: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold (Whelan 83), Ilori, Sakho, Maguire; Chirivella, Brannagan, Ejaria (Gomes 81); Wilson, Woodburn, Lennon (Williams 45).
