It’s been easy to forget over the past year and a bit that in Joe Gomez, Liverpool have one of the best English talents in any position on our books.
The 19-year-old suffered a devastating injury on international duty just as Jurgen Klopp too charge and a result hasn’t featured under the German in any context yet.
But on Wednesday, he played the full 90 for the Under-23s and looked like he’d never been away.
Liverpool won 4-0 against Burnley’s youngsters and Gomez was cool and composed at the back, although in truth he was very rarely threatened.
He played on the right of a back-three and didn’t put a foot wrong, showing an ability to pass into midfield and carry the ball forward when an opportunity presented it.
The EFL Cup tie with Leeds on Tuesday will probably come too soon, but we’d love to see him feature if it’s possible.
