Liverpool owner JW Henry has made his thoughts on ‘Take A Knee’ very clear

Even from this side of the pond, it’s been impossible to ignore the Take A Knee campaign that is happening in America’s NFL.

Players of all ethnicities are choosing to kneel during the national anthem before matches in order to protest seemingly systematic police brutality against black people in America.

It’s divided opinion, with President Trump claiming fans should boycott teams who let their players ‘disrespect’ the anthem.

At EOTK, we think that when you look at history, sport has always been a place where individuals can stand up to political and racial discrimination and we respect anybody’s right to protest.

So does our owner, John W Henry, who released this statement yesterday:

Henry owns the Boston Red Sox – and the ‘Take A Lead’ campaign includes Boston’s other sports franchises, the Celtics, the Patriots and the Bruins.

The campaign is to highlight racism in society and encourage people to stand up to it in the fight for equality.

As Liverpool fans, we’re proud Henry has chosen this side of the fence.
