Club president allows Swiss playmaker to leave…

Football legend and Bayern Munich club president Franz Beckenbauer has told 23-year-old Swiss playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri that he can leave the club in January, reports the Mirror.

Shaqiri is reportedly unhappy about a lack of playing time with the German champions, having only played 310 Bundesliga minutes all season.

“Bayern have already sent out a signal and indicated to him that he can probably go into the winter break, when he wants,” Beckenbauer told German channel Sport 1.

“I think it’s a shame because he is a great talent.”

Liverpool, along with Manchester United and Tottenham have been heavily linked with the attacking midfielder’s services – as he’s clearly available.

While we have bigger areas we need to focus on than attacking midfield, Shaqiri’s ability is undoubted, and he could add some spark to an incredibly stale attack right now.

However, Brendan Rodgers has claimed that winter business is largely unlikely, and if we do enter the market – it’ll surely be for a new striker, or a right-back.
