Not the first time we’ve been linked with the striker either.
The Metro live up to their reputation as reporters of ridiculous transfer rumours with their hilariously bad scoop that we are set to offer Real Madrid £38.1 million for Karim Benzema.

The report from the paper states we’re gearing up to ‘go all out’ for Benzema and will offer over £38 million at the end of the season in a bid to improve our forward line.
But whilst our strikers may indeed have been struggling, it looks as if Brendan Rodgers has found a solution with Raheem Sterling upfront – at least until Daniel Sturridge returns later this month.
This isn’t to say buying Benzema is a ridiculous idea, far from it. Every side could do with a striker as versatile, powerful and deadly in front of goal as the Frenchman, but it’s surely just transfer guff.
The 27-year-old is first choice at Madrid – the reigning European champions and top placed club in La Liga – and has just come off a season where he won four honours and scored 17 goals.
Why would he ever consider moving from such an ideal situation?
It’s true we could use some more impetus upfront, but with the impending return of Sturridge we may see a revitalised attack.
However, until we solve our issues upfront and become as potent as last season it looks like we might have to put up with these kind of crackpot transfer rumours.
How do you think we solve our hit and miss strike force during the second half of the season? Should we go into the transfer market in the summer if our strikers have failed to impress?
