After missing out to Manchester United for Memphis Depay earlier this week (via BBC Sport), Rodgers is eager to seek out an alternative marquee purchase that will both appease the fans and set us up nicely for next season.

According to the Daily Mirror, that man could be the 25-year-old Gabon international, who has scored 22 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Aubameyang is reportedly a long-term target for Rodgers, who would jump at the chance to bring him to Anfield. Indeed, the Mirror believes that our interest in the player stretches back as far as 2013, prior to his departure from Saint-Etienne.

A versatile forward, Aubameyang is also capable of playing out wide, something that Rodgers may want to utilise when Daniel Sturridge returns from injury. He is renowned for his tremendous pace – an attribute that is also heavily favoured by the Reds – while his goal return in a team that has been struggling domestically this campaign is highly encouraging.

There is of course a degree of uncertainty surrounding Dortmund right now with Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season and no Champions League football in line for the club next season.

The Mirror believe that we could turn both of those things to our advantage and convince him to make the move. They suggest that Roma are also interested but they’re likely to be held up by Financial Fair Play (via Sky Sports).

What do we think Reds – would this be a good one for us?
