Mignolet and Benteke have been teammates for the Belgium national team since 2011, winning 35 caps between them. Our goalkeeper has seen first-hand how deadly the Villa man can be in front of goal, while he’s also seen the 24-year-old score past him on more than one occasion.

And now, in quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo, Mignolet has revealed that he wants to see the powerful forward finding the net for the Reds.

“I’m going to talk with Benteke about the Liverpool rumour,” he said. “It would be fine to have three Belgians at the club”.

While Mignolet could be joined at Anfield by Benteke, one man that will definitely be plying his trade on Merseyside next season is striker Divock Origi, who returns to us after a season on loan at Lille.

“It’ll be a pleasure to welcome Divock to the club and the city,” Mignolet added.

The Reds’ number one was also quizzed on his own season, which came in two very distinctive halves – the first dominated by poor form and the second by great personal success. He ended the campaign with 14 Premier League clean sheets, second only to Manchester City’s Joe Hart, and was certainly able to reflect on the positives.

“At a club like Liverpool, you know the goalkeeper can get criticism,” he admitted. “All you can then do is keep working hard. I’ve played a good second half of the season, now I have to keep that going into next season.

“We’ve got to make sure we are together as a team when the new season starts. We must make a good start. We want to take Liverpool back to the top next season.”
