Roberto Firmino has become our second most expensive signing of all time. The Brazilian, who joins us from 1899 Hoffenheim, will cost in the region of £29m according to reports on BBC Sport.

The reported fee is substantially more than what was being suggested as recently as yesterday by the Daily Mirror, who claimed that an £18m deal was on the verge of completion.

It’s possible of course that we will pay a smaller initial fee as part of a deal made up by various add-ons, which has become something of a trend over the last few years. However, if this is the case, it’s not detailed by the BBC.

What is confirmed, is that Firmino has signed a five-year deal. His wage and squad number are yet to be revealed, although it’s extremely likely that the 23-year-old will become one of our highest paid players.

Having now completed our fifth signing of the summer, it will be intriguing to see what comes next from Brendan Rodgers and co. A right-sided defender is surely a must, following the departure of Glen Johnson, while it would also be good to see some of the fringe players in the squad moved on.

Either way, we get the feeling that this exciting summer is only just hotting up!
