Firmino will wear the number eleven shirt, last worn by Oussama Assaidi, while James Milner – as has already been suggested – will take our famous number seven, which has been free since the departure of Luis Suarez.

The Brazilian will become the tenth player in the Premier League era to wear the number, which he has also been using while playing for Brazil at the Copa America, and follows Mark Walters, Jamie Redknapp, Vladimir Smicer, Robbie Fowler, Mark Gonzalez, Yossi Benayoun, Albert Riera, Maxi Rodriguez and Assaidi.

Six players – Nigel Clough, Steve McManaman, Vladimir Smicer, Harry Kewell, Robbie Keane and Suarez – have worn the number seven prior to Milner.

Danny Ings has also confirmed that he would prefer to avoid taking a lower squad number (via The Independent), which he feels he must prove himself worthy of. As a result, he is expected to wear 28.

There is no word yet on either of our other two new arrivals – Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez – who are both still waiting on confirmation. The former will likely take the number one, which is free since the departure of Brad Jones.
