Liverpool’s Emre Can has become a regular in Liverpool’s midfield since Jurgen Klopp arrived at Anfield. The German international is playing in his preferred position at last after playing mostly on the right side of a three-man central defensive formation.
There is no doubt that Can is a tremendous prospect with bags of ability and potential but I can’t help but think he is needing a break from first team action and allowed to develop under the influence of Klopp on the training field.
I’m not wanting Can to be dropped right now but when Jordan Henderson is fit again, he should be replaced by the Liverpool Captain.
Can is trying too hard at the moment and although he is giving more than 100% in every game, he is not producing much in terms of an end product when it comes to creating chances.
I’m disappointed the way he looks slow in possession and gets caught on the ball too often. His naivety and exuberance results in him making too many fouls. Defensively, he’s a liability, like last weekend’s mistake that led to Crystal Palace taking the lead and the Everton blunder earlier in the campaign.
I love his surging runs through the midfield but, again, too often he there is no end product.
With so many injuries at the moment Klopp has to continue playing Can but he should be the one to drop out when Henderson comes back into the team.
It is hard criticising a player that has so much potential and talent but at the moment he has a lot to learn, and a spell out of the team and more time on the training field will improve him to be a key player for Liverpool in the future.
