Liverpool have been continually linked with Schalke winger Leroy Sane, but according to German publication Bild, we’re also in contention for his club team-mate Max Meyer.
Meyer’s one year older than his recently more heralded colleague, but has been touted for greatness since he broke into the team in 2013.
The 20-year-old is diminutive in frame but has exceptionally quick feet and a brilliant footballing brain, making him one of Europe’s most exciting young playmakers.
The report claims that Sevilla, Barcelona and AC Milan are also keeping tabs on the one-time capped German, who’s contracted until 2018.
Right now though, we need a player like Sane more than we need a Meyer. Sane starts wide and looks to run directly at defenders, providing a real goal threat as well. Meyer is tremendously talented, but wants to play as a no.10 – a position we’ve already a number of players. Liverpool have the creators (even though they’re not creating much at the moment), but lack the runners.
ESPN suggest Manchester City have already made a gargantuan £40m bid for Sane, which seems astronomical considering he’s scored and assisted just four goals apiece so far this term. That makes him way out of our price-range this January.
