Our fans have been out in force on social media this evening, reacting to the news that our current number one Simon Mignolet has agreed a new five-year contract extension with the club.
Mignolet has not had much competition in recent seasons, with Brad Jones being well-short of the required standard, Adam Bogdan suffering from poor form, and Danny Ward out on loan at Morecambe and then Aberdeen. Fans are not sure, therefore, whether he should be the guaranteed starter for the next five years.

Here’s some of best, most insightful, funniest, and most controversial reaction from Twitter:
It would seem #LFC have lost the plot giving Mignolet a contract extension. Should be showing him the exit with a big boot up his arse

@Brodinho Yes, Mignolet who has just signed a new contract is going to be used as leverage for Saido fucking Berahino

@philsalcedo @ATheakston utter garbage that mignolet is given a new contract. Liverpool have the worst keepers they have had for a long time

Still in disbelief we’ve given Mignolet a new contract, expecting to wake up tomorrow & weve recalled Balotelli

I won’t lie I was very underwhelmed with the new Mignolet contract but I trust in Jurgen and whatever he has planned.

Turns out Mignolet’s new contract isn’t true. Liverpool sent a contract to his house for him to sign but he had no idea where his post was.

I’m puzzled by the decision to re-contract Mignolet I really am #LFC

Mignolet makes a horrible mistake and fumbles his pen as he tries to seal a contract extension pic.twitter.com/ftzV9DnkTb

Don’t understand fume over Mignolet. Why let him go for nothing? The contract at least guarantees some fee for him
— Tony Evans (@TonyEvans92a) January 18, 2016
Yes Mignolet has a lot of clean sheets, but clean sheets are a team effort. A lot of the goals we concede are his individual mistakes.
