Exit-linked Allen given Man of the Match for Wales vs Northern Ireland by Daily Mail

Joe Allen has been fantastic during the Euro 2016 Championships, putting in another superb performance against Northern Ireland this past Saturday evening. The Welshman helped his side progress into the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win, with The Daily Mail giving him the highest rating out of any player on the pitch.

The Liverpool star has been one of the standout performers for Wales, working doggedly in midfield and keeping his side’s engine going. He performs a seriously underappreciated role, but the Mail have given him a bit of appreciation after his recent display.

In a side with the likes of Gareth Bale, Ashley Williams, and Aaron Ramsey – all of whom put in great performances for Wales on a regular basis – Allen was given the highest rating. Northern Ireland may have lost the game, but they arguably played better than Wales for the most part, yet Allen’s rating was still higher than every single player on the pitch.

Gareth Bale, who supplied the cross that led to the goal, got a score of 7. The rest of the Wales squad got between 6 and 7.5, while Allen towered above them all with an 8.

Despite these numerous solid performances, he’s continuously being linked with a move away from Liverpool at the moment (via the Daily Star).

Many aren’t happy with the rumours linking him with an Anfield exit, but unfortunately it seems a real possibility at this point.
