Long-term Liverpool target still available, claims club CEO

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims Mario Gotze is still available and could be on the move this summer, revealing that talks were ongoing with Borussia Dortmund but a deal was yet to be struck, as reported by German publication Sport1.

Gotze has long been a target of ours, but the players indecision and the lengthy transfer saga seemed to have put Jurgen Klopp off the idea of signing his former player.

You never know what can happen in the transfer market though, and if Klopp is still interested then Rummenigge’s comments could interest him greatly.

His statement revealed that there was definitely a possibility of Gotze leaving, and if we can beat Dortmund to the punch we could still sign him.

“I can confirm that there have been talks with Borussia Dortmund and his advisers, but the whole thing is still not perfect,” said the CEO.

“The teams must first agree on a transfer fee.”

It’s questionable whether we’d still be interested in Gotze, as after all the apparent snubs and stalling we are seemingly no longer looking at the player.

At this point it seems very unlikely that we’d make a move for Gotze – especially given the players we already have at our disposal and the players we’ve already signed – but it’s not over until the fat lady sings. That said though, would many Liverpool fans even still want him?
