Henderson Goal of the Month awards keeps Liverpool on track to equal a quirky 1988 record

Jordan Henderson has won September’s Goal of the Month award for his stunner against Chelsea a few weeks ago.

It was Henderson’s league goal since January and was a timely reminder of what he can offer the side.

Away from the qualities of the goal itself, Henderson’s gong means we are two from two in this season’s Goal of the Month awards.

Sadio Mane won August’s for his stunning run and finish against Arsenal on the opening day.

The double win means we are on track to equal 1988’s quirky record (though there is still a LONG way to go!!).

Back then, every single goal of the month winner for the whole season was a Liverpool player. Here is the complete list:

Aug – Steve Nicol v Newcastle
Sept – John Barnes v QPR
Oct – Peter Beardsley v Everton
Nov – John Aldridge v Arsenal
Dec – Peter Beardsley v Arsenal
Jan – Ray Houghton v Everton
Feb – Steve McMahon v Manchester United
March – John Aldridge v Nottingham Forest
April – John Aldridge v Nottingham Forest
May – Peter Beardsley v Nottingham Forest

Can we repeat that stunning sequence?!
