Emre Can vows to return to the first eleven sooner rather than later

It’s been a tough start to the season for Emre Can.

After being given an extended break after the Euros he was behind some of the other players in terms of fitness and was forced to sit out the first few league games.

He was then given a run out against Burton Albion the the League Cup second round, but he picked up an unfortunate ankle injury and missed another few weeks of training and matches.

Those circumstances, combined with how Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Adam Lallana have struck up an understanding in the midfield three, have conspired to keep him out of the side.

Alas, Lallana is now a doubt for United next week, so there could be hope of a return for the German.

Regardless, he has vowed to return to the first eleven as soon as possible – calling himself a “bad watcher”.

“I am a very, very bad watcher!” he said (official site).

“I haven’t played so many minutes this season but of course my target is to play a lot of minutes again.

“It is always better to play and be on the pitch. For me, it has been a little bit unlucky so far this season because I came back a little bit late and had a very short break after the Euros.

“Then I came back and got an injury. The team did very well and then I came back and it was not easy to get back into the team.

“Now I have to continue the work, I have to work hard. And I am confident enough that if I am ready and fit, I will play one day.”

Would you play him vs United? Let us know…
