Xabi Alonso knows Liverpool fans well and therefore knows how much a win over Manchester United means to them.
Sunday’s game at Old Trafford promises to be an energy-sapping encounter between two historic rivals with the players capable of producing an all-out attacking display.
We could be in for a treat as far as the game itself is concerned but three points is all we are after, no matter how they come. It doesn’t have to be pretty this weekend.
Alonso spoke from experience as he emphasised the importance of tomorrow’s game, telling Fox Latin America via the Liverpool Echo: “Nothing means more to the fans than beating Manchester United. During my time at the club we didn’t have much success at Old Trafford but a win there would not only mean everything to the fans, but give Liverpool the real belief they have what it takes to win the title this season.”

Not only are bragging rights at stake on Sunday, but so is the chance to put an eight point gap between ourselves and Jose Mourinho’s men.
It has been a testing couple of weeks but the quality of our players hasn’t disappeared overnight and we are still more than capable of matching our early season high intensity attacking football and coming away with three points.
Fans expect nothing less than maximum effort from the Reds in our biggest game of the season so far.
