Why LFC have no Keita alternative revealed

Jurgen Klopp is so desperate to sign Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita, that he’s so far refusing to consider Liverpool buying a different midfielder.

The German has already convinced the 22-year-old of our project and Keita has his heart set on a summer switch to Merseyside – but unfortunately his club have so far stubbornly refused to do business.

But Klopp is happy to wait patiently and will not go after an alternative until signing Keita is 100% impossible, writes James Pearce in the Echo.

He claims:

“It is believed Klopp is so intent on signing Keita, he is not currently interested in identifying an alternative. There is the sense the van Dijk saga could have one final twist. Arsenal, eventually, will have to make a decision on Oxlade-Chamberlain.”

All three of Keita, Virgil van Dijk and Oxlade-Chamberlain want to come to Liverpool this summer, but their respective clubs have so far proven unwilling to sell.

As a result, the chances of the trio leaving depends entirely on themselves and how much of a fuss they are willing to kick up.

If one of the players hands in a transfer request for example, or publicly declares their intention to exit, Southampton, Arsenal or RB Leipzig will have little choice but to cash in.
